The 2022 Kia Sorento has a wide variety of powertrain and engine options, but there are two potions in the gas-powered category. The Sorento comes standard with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and delivers 191 horsepower and 18 1lb-ft of torque. Drivers that want a lot more power should choose a trim level that upgrades the powertrain to the 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This powerful engine and the Sorento's smaller size rocket the SUV with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine also changes the transmission to an eight-speed wet-type dual clutch. The Sorento offers reliable performance with poised handling, nice ride, and firm brake-pedal feedback. The turbo engine delivers responsiveness off the line, and all models and engines pair with all-wheel drive (AWD) to deliver traction control and increased handling in all conditions.
Fun and futuristic, the interior of the 202 Kia Sorento is attractive and well laid out. Its solid build quality is evident in the materials and attention to detail across the cabin. The dashboard features a touchscreen infotainment system (8.0-inch on the lower models and 10.25-inch of the higher-level models) and rhombus-shaped air vents, while the centre console includes a rotary shift knob and drive-mode selector. All models of the Sorento feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth. Additional features such as satellite radio, a Bose premium sound system, and wireless charging are available. In terms of comfort, passengers have a lot of space, though the Sorento is not as spacious as the larger Telluride.
The 2022 Kia Sorento is available in six model versions across Canada: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, EX, EX+, and SX. Starting around $34,000, every trim level comes standard with smartphone connectivity, AWD, heated front seats, advanced forward collision avoidance assist, and lane following assist. The best value lies with the EX model, which starts around $41,000 and includes the turbocharged engine, leather seats, smart power liftgate, smart key with push button ignition, wireless cell phone charging, and additional driver-assist technologies.
